Derby Barracks, Fletcher Street, Bolton, BL3 6NF. Tel: 01204 398056. Emmaus is concerned with homelessness and recycling. They offer a place to live to people who have been homeless and are willing to help in the recycling business they run from the Community at Derby Barracks. Their aim is to become self-sufficient financially as soon as possible, by collecting and selling donated furniture and household goods. Before you throw things out, consider donating them to Emmaus and help the homeless as well as the environment. Opening times are: Monday to Friday: 9.00 - 16.00, Saturday: 10.00 - 14.00.
Freshfields Farm, Peak Forest, Derbyshire, SK17 8EE. Tel: 01298 79775. Open Friday to Sunday from 12pm to 4:30pm you could also find yourselves mixing with stars of stage and screen that form an impressive list of patrons. There is a tea room, picnic area, and memorial garden.
PCS Bolton Group, St Luke's Church, Chorley Old Road, Bolton. This is a well established group, which makes new members feel very welcome. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month starting at 2pm.
Of all the charities that help you sponsor a child in a developing country, this one stands out. 100% of your donation goes directly to the child, not the administration, not the community, and not on religious missionary work. They are long established, older than I am, and that is old, and operate across the globe.
