Bolton is home to two major multiplex cinemas so there is a huge range of films on offer. Neither of them is in the town centre however – the Odeon closed down many years ago. It isn't easy keeping up with the current ownership of these cinemas as they seem to change regularly, but here is the latest...

Closest to the town centre but still a car, taxi or bus ride and not a walk, the Cineworld complex is modern, clean, comfortable, and offers family discount tickets. There is a Frankies and Bennies restaurant and a nightclub on the same site. Plus a McDonalds at the end of the road.

Located on the north-west outskirts of town but easily accessible from the M61 motorway the Vue complex is on the Middlebrook Leisure Park, shared with Bolton Wanderers FC and its magnificent Reebok Stadium. All the major chain restaurants can be found nearby so it’s great for a movie and a meal. There was once a pub in the entrance hall but no longer. An excellent Chinese restaurant sits above the foyer - Abacus.
Theatres
Bolton has three theatres all centrally located, each with its own unique style and flavour, encompassing professional and amateur productions, concerts, and corporate facilities.
In addition, events and productions are regularly held in other community venues throughout the borough.

The cultural heart of the town and located in the eastern section of the historic Town Hall, The Albert Halls incorporates a theatre and a suite of smaller meeting and conference rooms. It is also one of the grander wedding venues in the area.
The website gives a full schedule of productions, concerts, and events, an online reservation service, as well as a history of the location.

The Octagon runs a programme of professional productions, including musicals, dramas, classics, and comedies throughout the year, divided into two seasons. The website contains details of current and future productions, information about the theatre, and an online booking facility.

An independent performing arts organisation in Bury town centre, six miles from Bolton, presenting contemporary and classic theatre, music and comedy. There is a comedy club on the first Thursday of every month.
